The Garden
Please imagine a flourishing very large garden that contains multiple different habitats. Here you can find different animals and plants, old and young trees, bushes, pastures, wells, ponds, flower as well as well vegetable beds and many other things. It is unique in its life, in its diversity of colours and in its splendid growth.
The gardener, who takes care of the garden and customises it alongside his team, has an ample amount of knowledge on both the macrocosm, i.e. climate zone, weather, seasons, soil conditions, environmental influences etc. as well as on the microcosm, i.e. interplay between different plants, crop rotations, utilising useful creatures, blooming periods, upkeep etc. One of his first and most important tasks is to decide, in cooperation with the client, what the garden should ultimately look like and what purposes the different areas ought to serve.
In my opinion, an enterprise can be compared to a large garden. Both are complex systems. A company is susceptible to interplay with other actors and outside impulses – market development, financial markets, economic policy, globalisation etc. This also applies to intra-company issues – employees, leadership, strategic orientation, goals, results, structures, processes etc.
An organisation’s strategic orientation, impending changes, sustainable development of new pathways and readiness for the future – good gardeners, i.e. consultants, coaches and trainers, support and guide organisations in answering these multi-faceted questions. They do this through their open-minded and inquisitive behaviour, always appreciating everyone. It all starts with the question about what should be achieved; after that, concepts are developed, tools and methods are employed in a precise manner. This guarantees execution, i.e. attaining goals and ultimately success.
My successful work is based on a systemic-constructivist fundamental understanding. My approach is holistic and sustainable – it is complemented by knowledge, experience, the situationally appropriate use of diverse tools and methods and, finally, being highly action-, execution- and goal-oriented.
